Each day's dice come from a secret XPRoll locks in the day before and a public random number nobody knows in advance. Check any day, roll or Gauntlet yourself.
Each day's proof opens once its secret is revealed, after the day's last roll.
A secret, locked in the day before
XPRoll makes a random secret for each day ahead of time and publishes its fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash). Before 23:57 UTC the evening before, that fingerprint is stamped on XPR Network, where nobody can change or back-date it.
A number nobody knows in advance
At 23:57 UTC drand, a public randomness network run by independent organisations, publishes a number nobody could know earlier. Each day's dice mix XPRoll's secret with that number.
Every roll from the two
Each roll's dice are worked out from the secret, drand's number and the roll's name: the day, the player and which of their rolls it is. Nothing else goes in, so a roll can't be swapped or re-rolled.
The secret, revealed after the day
Once the day's last roll is in, XPRoll publishes the secret. Your browser then checks the fingerprint, the stamp, drand's signature and every roll of the day itself.
From 23:57 UTC the evening before XPRoll can work out the next day's dice, but can't change them, so anything that bets on tomorrow closes first: Prophecy calls lock at 23:55 UTC. A day without drand's number relies on trusting XPRoll: its dice come from XPRoll's secret alone, which XPRoll knows from when it makes it, so it could have chosen between two sets of dice. Its proof says so.
Everything on these pages can be checked without trusting XPRoll: the proofs are plain JSON, and the recipe is public.
